What is Past Simple Tense?
Past Simple is a simple past tense. It is also sometimes called Indefinite Past Tense. It is used to tell facts from the past, to share memories. Let's figure out how it is formed and when it is used!
This is a tense in English used to describe completed actions in the past.

The most difficult thing in Past Simple is the semantic verbs. You need to remember regular and irregular verbs, change endings and verb forms correctly!
Regular verbs - add the ending -ed
Look, play, call are regular verbs. In Past Simple, you need to add the ending -ed to them:
look => looked (смотрел)
play => played (играл)
call => called (звонил)

Let's remember the rules for adding the ending -ed to a verb from English lessons.
- Если глагол заканчивается на -y, а перед -y стоит согласная (study, try) — буква -y меняется на -i: studied, tried.
- Если глагол заканчивается на -y, а перед -y стоит гласная (play, stay) — буква -y не меняется: played, stayed.
- Если глагол из одного слога заканчивается на согласную (кроме буквы -x), а перед ней стоит гласная (beg, stop) — последняя буква удваивается: begged, stopped.
- Если глагол из нескольких слогов заканчивается на согласную, а перед ней стоит ударная гласная (fulfil, refer) — последняя буква удваивается: fulfilled, referred.
- Если слово заканчивается на -e (love) — к нему просто добавляется буква -d: loved.

Irregular verbs - remember the second form
Irregular verbs are one of the main tormentors of those who study English. There are about 200 of them, and they have to be memorized.

Affirmative sentences
Constructing a sentence in Past Simple is not a difficult task. The main thing is to understand the verb.
